After he became the third major Republican to announce his entry into the 2016 race for president, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida tops the list of candidates from his party in the latest Quinnipiac University Poll. Rubio got 15 percent of the registered Republican support. His mentor, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, was next with 13 percent. In a matchup with Hillary Clinton, Rubio was behind the Democrat by two percentage points.
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz got 9 percent of the GOP support, followed by Sen. Rand Paul with 8 percent. Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor, and Gov. Christie tied with 7 percent. The rest of the field earned 3 percent or less.
